How do your products use or challenge conventions and how do they represent social groups or issues?
My film follows a lot of common conventions not only found in movies but also found everyday in the real world. My movie is about a very smart girl named Charlette who gets picked on at school by the bully in my movie. This also shows the common conventions of nerds and bullies or jocks in everyday life. These common conventions can also be considered as the popular and unpopular people. The costuming that I used in each scene also follows these common conventions because of how I had the characters dress and what props I had them use. The bully wore a tank top and a leather jacket while Charlette wore a buttoned flannel shirt that was tucked in. Charlette also had a book by Shakespeare called Cat On A Hot Tin Roof while the bully had a football in his hand the entire 3rd scene. The costuming and props in the 3rd scene really help show the conventions that each character fit into and where they are in the social hierarchy.
These conventions really help to create a more compelling movie and make it a lot easier for the viewer to understand the plot of the movie and what exactly is going on in each of the scenes. The bully also seems to have a lower vocabulary using a lot of the same phrases like calling Charlette a dork over and over again which shows the bullies lower intellect which matches a lot of common conventions about bullies because a lot of the time they definitely aren't the smartest characters in movies or real life.
My movie is a very good example of many different common stereotypes. My movie is set up to lead to the future of the 2 characters where Charlette will be the CEO of her own company and the bully will be working at McDonald's. This shows the common conventions of life where people that try hard and are smart will get far in the world and people that belittle others and don't focus on the right things will end up being duds and getting nowhere in life.
