Costuming is a very important part of the filming process. It is the process of picking different sets of clothes for characters to help create meaning. Costuming can also be used to give subtle details or to give huge hints on what is to come in the film. A great example of how costuming can create meaning is in the movie Star Wars Episode 4 A New Hope. The example of how costuming can be used is with the use of certain colored clothes for the characters Anakin Skywalker and Obi-wan Kenobi
This image shows the darker more menacing colors that Anakin wore in the movie. The darker colors were used to help describe which side of the force he was on the dark or the light which is also the bad or the good. Darker colors used normally indicate a more menacing evil character which is exactly what Anakin is especially when he becomes Darth Vader and it helps to better explain the characters role in the story.

The battles that Anakin and Obi-Wan have throughout the movie do to the difference in their costumes with Anakin's being very dark. This shows how the costumes of characters can add small details to the film or other piece of media.
